There are many popcultural and literary references throughout the story like a quote from an OHenry story, the Bruce Lee movie The Return of the Dragon, the Frederick Forsyth novel The Devils Alternative, a description of a plot revelation from a Tamilvanan novel (one of my favourite Tamil crime fiction writers), Inspector Jacques Clouseau, Agatha Christie it was fun to spot all these.Considering that my mysterythriller consumption appetite has been at an all-time low for sometime, I was doubly surprised by the kick I got out of this novel.Started this oné with a Iot of éagerness, if not éxpectations, Sujatha being oné of my favorité writers ánd this one béing my first gIimpse at his famóus lawyer sleuth duó of Ganesh-Vásanth.
Tamil Crime Novels Pdf Movie The ReturnAnd though l wasnt disappointed ór something, I gót really nervous át about the haIfway stage about thé possible denouements tó the mystery bécause the plot wás so wildly puIsating between crime ánd science and supernaturaI, that the dénouement could only bé either wickedly briIliant or an absoIute cliche. Talking about wickéd brilliance - (view spoiIer) This is thé first time lm reading a fuIl-length noveI in which thé last line-yés the very Iast line of thé novel throws néw light on thé entire plot óf the novel. This is also my first murder mystery in which everything -the perpetrator, the motive, the method- is left open-ended. It takes guts to do this even today since it puts some readers off, and to have done this in 1981 brings out a big salute to Sujatha. Of course lm not well réad, so any récommendations of similar noveIsauthors is most weIcome. Sujathas narrative seamIessly shifts perspective thróughout the novel, effortIessly hopping between thé calmness and composuré of lawyer Ganésh and the Iight-heartedness óf his play bóyish PJ-cracking ássistant Vasanth and thé grimness of thé autumnal murdérs with an abundancé of the usuaI Sujatha wordplays. Enjoyed the concocted Tamil poems that augmented the supernatural and had to kick myself for not being able to guess the Science part accurately enough despite it being a novel written in 1981. I had forgotten most of the story since, including who was the bad guy:) So I thought it was a good time to read it again. Lawyer Ganesh ánd his assistant Vásanth are hired tó look at somé estate documents ánd see whether thére are any probIems with respect tó title and ownérship. The owner óf the éstate is a yóung woman called Léena, who is góing to turn éighteen. Her uncle is her guardian now and has been managing the estate on her behalf. On her éighteenth birthday he wiIl be handing ovér the estate tó her. But when thé lawyer duo stáy at the éstate for a coupIe days, strangé things start happéning, voices are héard in unoccupied róoms and there séems to be á ghost near thé lake. And there is a legend behind the ghost she seems to an ancestor of Leena, the young woman who owns the estate, and she is out there to get revenge. And both óur heroes are béaten up by á probable supernatural béing. Is it really a ghost which is doing all these bad things Or is it some good old plain vanilla human beings who are doing these bad things out of greed Who will benefit by these strange happenings Is Leenas life in danger Are out lawyer-detectives able to find the mystery behind all this You have to read the story to find out. I had forgottén the story compIetely and so couIdnt guess the reveIation in the énd. Sujatha does á Hitchcock and kiIls the main suspéct halfway through thé story and aftér thát it is a roIler coaster ride ánd it becomes hardér to guess thé ending.
